In the central square of Avola, on the north side, stands the Clock Tower.
The Clock Tower was designed by the engineer Salvatore Rizza. It was built in Piazza Umberto I in 1865 foe want of the Mayor Cav. Calogero Gubernale, and it was inaugurated in 1866.
In 1703, at the expense of the Marquis, the structure was built in stonework and the underlying dammusi were used as prison. On top of the tower was placed a weathercock made in wrought iron to signal the winds’ direction.
